Why YOU should lead a Bible Study

1. The teachers learn more - As the teacher, you have a great opportunity to do the digging and get the research!

2. It can change your study habits - Having the accountability to the class can really keep you motivated. Mix that with trying new things and considering different angles can build better study habits that will last long after the class is over.

3. You'll get practice (ahem experience) at leading studies!  - You might be saying "I can't lead classes, I'd be no good at it."  How would you know if you've never done it? You might be nervous the first 20 times. You might make mistakes for a while or here and there but something tells me that you can ride a bike like a pro and you were probably nervous and made mistakes doing that too. Just as in you got on the bike and learned how to ride. Get on the study and learn how to teach.

4. Well because you're a Priest, that's why! -  1 Peter 2:9  says "But you [believers] are a chosen [by God] people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."

and if that wasn't enough-

Matthew 28:19-20 says "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to [observe and] obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

I mean, how else would YOU go make a disciple?

5. It'll grow your faith - Peter didn't walk on water until AFTER he stepped out of the boat. In fact, he didn't even start to sink until after he took his eyes off of Jesus. Imagine what he must've thought when he first stepped out only to realize that Jesus really was that powerful and that he could share something with Peter! You might not think you're a teacher yet but by stepping out, you will challenge yourself in a new way for God and you might personally discover a little something too.

6. You can pick the Study! - You know there's a book you've been dying to get your hands into. If you lead the class, you can pick it.

7. You can make some new friends!  Yes, I know the friends that you have now are great but can you really have too many friends?

8. You can share your experiences! - Have you ever learned something really exciting about the bible or something helpful that grew your faith? We should be able to talk to anyone about those things but what better platform to share and help sharpen someone else, than by leading the class.

9. And what better way to thank [or worship] God than by putting your fears aside and encouraging a brother or sister to get deeper in the word too!

Update -  I read this verse a little later in the morning. And how perfect is it for this post?!?! We wait for a certain amount of money before buying a car or to obtain a certain status before having children or even to have certain tasks completed before considering success. Doing things that are new to us, will always make us cautious. Stepping out for the Lord is no different, especially when it comes to leading others. But look at what Paul, who is one of the greatest teachers in the Bible, says:

"And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power." -1Corinthians 2:1-5

--Beautiful!--

You might not feel like you know enough doctrine or have enough "confidence" or skill or style... but Paul didn't either.  But he was willing and he stepped out [in faith] and applied himself and God was able to work through him in a powerful way. Just look at all that he was able to accomplish!

Put yourself out there and wait to see what God will do! I hope he knocks your socks off!
