When Twilight Etches In

Twilight etches in
full of brilliance and potential

Imploring me to rise
with the sun
I comply but am
Soon lost in the busyness
   of living

Clouds loom ahead, casting
passengers in cars,
footsteps down corridors,
a toast between friends
    and lovers

I am suspended by another day
 A younger me
     A younger you

The clouds roll away
And I am thankful for sunlight

I catch my breath while
My eyes regain their focus
…one distraction, then another
And I move forward,
   In my own evolution

The day turns to eve
More clouds, more still shots
framed
     around the corners of
your eyes and

Things that were made
Both tangible and not
But made
   none-the-less

The darkness closes in
I turn out the light

Twisting-
until midnight finds me

And I leap over, run
into its depths, and fall
face down into my pillow

So as not to leak out
one drop of this pool
that I have carried

Your smile catching me every time.

And perhaps
more startling there
     -you are-
In dreams, still
Whole-
     and beautiful.

and

We are suspended
until morning

When twilight etches in...
