Journaling has become a huge staple to my routine. I talk with other women regularly that are also interested in journaling and/or looking for new ways to try it. I started collecting links with different ideas to share with others and now I have this page. Don't forget to check back, as I will be adding to it as I go!
Do it yourself
1. Get a timer. Set it for 15 minutes and just write a steady stream of words. Don't stop for spelling or corrections. If you don't know what to write, start with "I am holding a pen and writing on a piece of paper until I find something to say..." Then continue until the words flow. If it's a new habit then it will take time to get used to it. -But keep practicing!
2. Write to him like you would write a friend.
3. This link contains templates and printables for starting your own prayer journal.
4. Pick a chapter of the Bible. Write out each line of the verse. Then go back and consider personal meaning in each line. Summarize it at the end. Here's an example and you can get as in depth as you like.
5. Try a daily log, summary, recap.
Guided ideas and suggestions
1. Check out Bible Studies and Journals that come with topics to get you started writing.
2. This Is My Story: Creating a Scrapbook Legacy of Faith
3. Gina Duke has a "Prayer Closet" and "31 Days of Structured Prayer Journaling"
4. Women Living Well Ministries has a great format (called the SOAP) method for blogging/journaling through the Bible. This method is similar to # 4 in the first list, except that the author will suggest a chapter and you can follow comments and discussion on this site.
5. Journaling 4 Faith Offers regular prompts or topics to get you started.
Whatever you do, focus on simply drawing closer to God. Give yourself time. There really can't be any mistakes if you're only writing for you. Trust that God sees your heart and that he already knows what you want to put in words. So write in a way that allows you to see what he might want to reveal to you in the process. Practice, practice, practice!
