Mornings are usually pretty hectic around our household, like yours, I am sure. One morning, following our usual rhythm we start making it out the door. I get Ethan and Sophie on their way to their grandmother’s house. I load the van and buckle Jackson in. I sit in the driver seat and sigh, a sigh of relief that we’re finally on our way.
As I put the van in reverse, Jackson shouts that he has to pee. I drop my head. Put the van back in park. Open the door and walk around to his side. I know that if I go back in the house, it will be another 10 minutes. So, I open the door and tell him just to stand from the door of the van and 'water the grass'. Of course, he’s not only relieved but happy to oblige.
(Mostly to remind myself to be patient) I start making jokes and bet him that he can’t pee on the fence. In “all boy” style, he accepts the challenge, puffs his chest out and starts bragging about how far he can “throw”. I snicker a little and it eases my mood. I don’t know about ‘far’ but he did have quite the arch, so I congratulate him. He continues bragging. Pauses-
Then blurts out,
“Ethan ran through my rainbow once!”
I wasn’t really sure if he was talking about the arch or the rainbow caused between sunlight and water… but either way, I couldn’t help but laugh in disgust at the “humor” of boys. I was thankful to get part of an inside scoop that I might have missed otherwise.
AND- there’s always a lesson to be learned- are you ready?
Don’t be so hurried or too afraid of getting messy- to enjoy other people’s rainbows today!
Blessings to you!
