No bride ever forgets her wedding day. As far as my own, one memory stands out more than others. As I made my way to the alter and stepped up onto the stage to join Colin and the Pastor; the entire church erupted in laughter. I looked around but couldn’t figure out what was so funny. I started fidgetting and even began swatting at the back of my dress as if I could’ve had it accidentally tucked in….
It wasn’t until the reception that I learned; instead of the usual wedding march, I sped-walked down the aisle. Once it was explained, I did recall hearing the organ in the background, speeding up faster and faster and then cutting off abruptly. I could also hear the swooshing of my dress with each step but I clearly missed both signals on the way. I had somewhere to be... ;)
-Never mind that we’d rehearsed it. On the day big day, all of that went out the window. My father even said that he tried to slow me down. I was just too nervous and excited.

Of course, scripture also refers to believers as the Bride of Christ:
Revelation 19:7 - “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.”
Isaiah 54:5 - “For your Maker is your husband—the Lord Almighty is his name—the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called God of all the earth.”
Isaiah 62:5 – “For as a young man married a woman, so will your Builder marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.”
Changing perspective, how does your walk with [or to] the Lord compare to the march of a bride? Is it met with anticipation or focus? Are you even at the church, ready? Are you even preparing in your heart to see him during a part of your day?
The truth is I could probably have a whole lot of fun with this analogy and the comparisons but there are a few things that most brides have in common; A zeal for their “King”, obvious recognition (a bride stands out) and a glow. Could any or all three of these be used to describe you or I in relation to either of our Kings?
I'm not actually going to finish this devotion because part of the fun in meditating, is considering different parallels. Even better, what are some significant moments from your own wedding day that might speak to you as you look back? (Comment below. I’d love to hear about it!)
As you consider those things, how might it change who we present to the world [and to our Kings] today?
